Jump Start My Memory

Does anyone else out there recall a darling little band called LDS? My synapses were often in traction back in the day, so my timeline for the era is worse than fuzzy. If you put me and my cuz toghether in a room, however, you can usually sketch out an entire nite's story ... maybe it's Bonzo's finally going back to Bitburg that makes me rather nostalgic.

Legion Death Squad.... sure. I saw Greg a couple of months ago. They were pretty entertaining. My own memory is pretty fuzzy for about how long they were together, but it would have been something like 83' or 84' until 89' or 90'. There were some prison terms that broke them up. Didn't they play at the "Rock Against Reagan" rally downtown? For those that don't remember that, Reagan was scheduled to speak for local Republicans and the punks organized an anti-Reagan rally. Several hundred attended and it got a bit of press.

Thank you for backing up my poor, frightened memory cells! I think I do still have an old copy of Maximum Rock & Roll somewhere with a letter translating LDS as Learning Disability Syndrome. I can't help but wonder what became of Greg and Jeanie's (sp?) child - must be a little punk-of-age or Young Republican of voting age by now. I always found it interesting to see the wee babe-in-arms cooing happily offstage.

Ah! for the daze when bands were happily left of center! I should still have an old 3-colour "TSOL at the Indian Walk-In Center" poster that was clearly anti-Reagan, anti-fascist and pro-human somewhere in my personal archives.

I think that LDS stood for various things at different times. Depended on their mood. Greg's daughter is a teenager and he said she is doing really well. He looked good despite the trouble he has been through. I didn't ask about Jeannie.

I have an LDS flyer somewhere, but I never saw them--the flyer was my sister's. I kept it 'cause I thought it was rilly funny. Skeleton with mohawk in leather jacket flipping the bird.

Okay, so he didn't have a mohawk, but I think the bullet hole makes up for it: www.tribe.net/tribe/servl...ontext/tribe

Damn that brings back memories. My all time favorite SLC punk band was the Strangers. That flyer was for a benefit for the singer's, Mike Paoli (who is now a librarian and if you ever knew Mike, it is pretty funny to picture,) religious group. He was also the manager of the Word for a time.

Thanks for the visual! Makes me want to get the soul-stealer hooked up to this system so I can turn my souvenirs into bits and bytes that will undoubtedly last longer than their crumbling little selves.

My era here was early eighties, then I wandered off for a good long while. Just thinking of the Word, however, put some very pleasant thought into my head! Thanks again.

Thanks for the update, complete with good news! I think the quip re: the name was all for Max R&R's benefit: I do think it's the best translation for those 3 letters, tho', even when I'm not thinking of the band.

Hey Everybody.... New to the tribe, but first off I'd like to say a fond hello to Lillith.... I think if you look far enough back in your crystal ball, you just might remember me!!! It was good to see you on here....

On another note..... I remember LDS and a whole lotta other bands.... What about those Libido Boys??? Those guys were FOXY..... LOL....

Ummmm... On another other note- anybody talk to my cousin Joe? Sean Fightmaster's old sidekick?

Budgie, you look so damn familiar, but my crystal ball is 35 years old now. You may have to give me some context.

Didn't Joe go to RHSM with me? I have not seen him in many moons.

LOL... It's OK- that was a very long time ago... You might remember me as bein' a real skinny toothpick with big black hair... I usually wore a lot of white and I used to wear a lot of BOY London back then..... I hung out at Bandaloops ALL THE TIME.... I made a lot of friends there over the years, but I was a lot younger than most everybody.. I would've just turned 12 in '85 and I think that's when I started first hanging out there.... I later became good friends and then not-so-good-of-friends with Tyler, who worked with you... I went out with Greg Clap for awhile... Ring any bells????

As for Joe- I'm talking about Joe Moody..... Him and Fightmaster got into some trouble with the law (surprise, surpise) and he ended up in jail for awhile.... Arson, maybe??? Last I heard, he moved to Idaho.... Haven't heard anything about him since..... Fightmaster used to show up at my shop (Galaxina) every once in awhile.... When I closed up the shop in '97- I moved to L.A......

My crystal ball is becoming clearer. I remember your nickname and I know I knew you. Your face from that time will start to become clearer. The ball is damaged from years of motherhood and waking up much too early.

'Loops opened January '87. Greg was my roommate from hell. Fine while he was there, a demon when I got the eviction notice because he hadn't paid his part of the rent for two months and didn't tell me. I saw Tyler this spring. Billie got married and he was a best man. Ty is living in Seattle. Joe Moody is familiar to me, but I have no idea what happened to him. I have had several people ask me about Fightmaster in the last two weeks and other than hearing that he was having some bad health problems a couple of years ago, I have no idea. I really hope that he is okay. For such a crazy kid, he did have a pretty good heart.

After I got married, finished college, and had a baby, I was kind of out of that scene. I often wonder what happened to a lot of the people that hung out there.

I am glad that you are well.

Ya know, my crystal ball's a little foggy, too.... I was really having to work my brain to come up with that much info...... I think I started going out with Greg right after you guys split- he was living in a completely empty apartment on 2nd south....

I did think of one other thing that may work your brain a little- I was (and still am) really good friends with True..... For a long time we were inseparable- she's kinda hard to forget... ;)

I wish I would have taken a lot more photos back then... There are scores and scores of people I used to hang out with that I'm sure I've forgotten about over the years.... Not to mention, I did a lot of drugs in those days so I probably wasn't entirely there to begin with..... I do still wonder what happened to certain people... I'd be curious to know whatever happened to Liz Southwell (sp?).......

I know what yer sayin' about Fightmaster... He WAS crazy.. Because I was so young back then, him and Joe used to chase me around downtown tryin' to scare the living daylights outta me... They'd scream at me, "We're gonna kill you!!!" Later on, we became friends and I was pretty surprised to find out just how sweet he could be when he wanted to be....

all those years of memory repression therapy ruined.

this thread is really making me swoon...

my fondest memory of mr. fightmaster is being dragged out of a so. temple squat by the police with him right after he turned 18 and the 15 year old girl he was with. somehow her parents had followed us there and the poor boy spent the next few weeks in jail.

              how's tricks budgie?
